Applause for the Cause is Alta Bates Summit Foundation’s June 6 event at the Oakland Convention Center benefiting the new Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center; it’s also an apt description of what’s in store for you that evening. Entertained by the sweet sounds of vocalist Dionne Warwick and the comic wit of Sinbad, a sellout crowd of 1,500 is expected in support of Northern California’s premier breast health facility.

It’s a terrific cause,” says Linda Peltz, the event’s chair and Lifetime Trustee and former board Chair of the Foundation. “All of us have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. We now have a state-of-the-art facility right here in the East Bay with extraordinary doctors and caring support personnel, and want everybody to know about it and support it.”

The $13 million Breast Health Center opened at Alta Bates Summit’s Providence Pavilion in March 2008, thanks in large measure to the broad-based community support garnered by the Foundation. “Once you get the bricks and mortar in place, it doesn’t stop there,” says Peltz. “The need for advanced technology never stops, the services never stop. To keep programs going that are so beneficial to the community and to people with breast cancer and their families, they need our ongoing support.”

Major media sponsors for Applause for the Cause include Comcast and KBLX-FM 102.9. VIP sponsors and donors will be invited to an exclusive reception, with premier-level sponsors taking part in a meet and greet with Warwick and Sinbad. Tickets are $65 and $90 for theater seating and $275 for a seat at tables near the stage. To purchase, visit www.AnInvestmentInMiracles.org or call the Foundation at (510) 204-1667.

“Treat yourself to something nice,” says Peltz. “Everyone involved will benefit from it — the Breast Health Center, the audience, and the community.”
