    2008 Celebrity Classic A Resounding Success

    Now in its 17th year, the Alta Bates Summit Foundation Celebrity Classic was an all-around success, raising funds for Alta Bates Summit Medical Center’s programs for youth: Thunder Road and Youth Bridge.

    Thunder Road is a life-changing recovery program for drug and alcohol abuse for youth and their families struggling with the challenges of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse.

    Youth Bridge, a mentoring and internship program, enables adolescents to complete high school and gain meaningful employment experience.

    Thunder Road is a model program, and the only integrated adolescent inpatient, residential, and intensive outpatient behavioral health care program in California. for youth and their families. Thunder Road is also one of the few programs to regularly offer scholarships to youth whose families lack the resources or public assistance to pay for treatment. Since opening its doors in 1987, Thunder Road has helped more than 6,000 kids and their families .

    Youth Bridge was established in 1990. The program provides academic instruction in job-readiness and health-related careers, mentoring by caring adults, paid summer internships at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and other community organizations, leadership development, a college club and community service opportunities. Youth Bridge is targeted to serve Alameda Country 9 th graders through college students and has served more than 750 youth .

    The 2008 Celebrity Classic was another exciting and fun event. The popular golf tournament was held at the beautiful Diablo County Club on September 8. The Celebrity Pro/Am tennis tournament, at the historic Berkeley Tennis Club on September 20, featured headliners Lindsay Davenport and Tracy Austin. Media celebrities and local tennis pros played doubles throughout the day with sponsored players. The Classic finale was an “Evening in Monte Carlo” at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland. Guests experience the thrill and excitement of casino gaming, fine wine and dined on delicious variety of international cuisine .

    The dates for the 2009 Classic have already been reserved so mark your calendars: golf on September 14 at Diablo Country Club and tennis on September 26 at Berkeley Tennis Club with the finale at the Claremont Resort & Spa in Berkeley .

    Celebrity Classic Helps Youth Programs in the community

    The 17th annual Alta Bates Summit Foundation Celebrity Classic was an all-around success, raising funds for youth in the community.

    At the golf tournament, celebrities that took swings and putted for birdies included: KTVU Fox 2 sports reporter Fred Inglis, NBC 11 News anchor Diane Dwyer, Warriors commentator Jim Barnett, former NBA player John Lambert, former NFL player John Sciarra, and former MLB player Matt Young.

    Headliners for this year’s Tennis Classic at the Berkeley Tennis Club on Saturday, September 20th were Lindsay Davenport and Tracy Austin. The Celebrity Pro/Am tennis tournament featured media celebrities and local pros playing doubles throughout the day with sponsored players. The Classic finale was a gala at the Claremont Country Club on Saturday evening.
